In this ceremony, where 1,000 people from the industry attended, awards were given to the company engaged in a total of six sectors including manufacturing, sales and distribution, general services, financial services, foreign corporations, and public services. Henkel Korea was selected due to the efforts shown by the company to secure gender diversity at the workplace, such as having more than 30 percent of female managers employed.

Henkel has today inaugurated the world’s largest adhesives factory in Shanghai. With this new production facility the company is expanding its production capacity in a major emerging market and will deliver its innovative adhesive technologies more quickly to the growing number of customers based in China and the Asian region.

Coinciding with the start of the new academic year, Henkel’s international student competition – the “Henkel Innovation Challenge” – kicks off once again. Henkel confirms leading position in sustainability ranking 

For the seventh consecutive year, Henkel has been listed as industry group leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World) and Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe (DJSI Europe). Henkel again took first place in the Household & Personal Products category and remains the only company in its sector to feature in both the DJSI World and the DJSI Europe. The Indices list corporations that follow the principles of sustainable development in their business operations.

Overwhelming employee engagement 

Fifteen years MIT: 15 years of Henkel support for the social engagement of its employees past and present. For it is through the MIT Initiative (“Make an Impact on Tomorrow”) – founded in 1998 – that Henkel channels donations and sponsorship in various forms to its employees and retirees around the world as a means of bolstering their volunteering activities. In these 15 years, more than 10,500 projects have been supported in over 50 countries around the world. And on the occasion of this 15th anniversary of the MIT Initiative, the Management Board of the company has not only allocated an annual donation budget of around 1.8 million euros but also a special fund for additional anniversary projects.

Henkel garners another sustainability accolade: On June 20, 2013, specialists in sustainability investing RobecoSAM will, for the second consecutive year, be conferring their “SAM Sustainability Awards,” with Henkel due for honors as the Gold Class and Sector Leader in recognition of its successes in pursuing sustainable development. One of the selected few, Henkel will be receiving its award as the top sustainability performer in the “Nondurable Household Products” category at a ceremony in Frankfurt am Main. Kathrin Menges, Executive Vice President Human Resources and Chair of Henkel's Sustainability Council, will be appearing personally to receive the honor. “We are very pleased to have done so well in this ranking. This award confirms our position in the vanguard of sustainable development and serves as a further spur for us to extend our lead as we continue to drive progress in this domain," says Kathrin Menges.

Social initiative hits the news 

Based on the belief that knowledge and education are key for a secure and better future, Schwarzkopf Professional runs the worldwide social initiative “Shaping Futures” that sees young adults being trained the craft of hairdressing by groups of volunteers. Launched in November 2010, the program has been rolled out to different countries all over the world and is constantly getting more interest from the media.  BBC Look North now reported on the pioneering social initiative by screening a special report from two of the volunteering hairdressers in Chennai, India.

Schwarzkopf, one of the top three hair cosmetic brands in the world with a history of quality and innovation stretching back over 115 years, is entering the retail market in Indonesia with the launch of four retail product brands. Including Extra Care, Freshlight, Got2b, and Palette, the launch will enable consumers here to indulge in a complete routine – from hair care and hair styling to hair coloration – in the comfort of their homes. Henkel reconfirms 2013 guidance 

At Henkel’s Annual General Meeting today, CEO Kasper Rorsted reviewed the company’s successful performance over the preceding four years and outlined Henkel´s new strategy and financial targets for the period through 2016. Referring to the challenging economic environment between 2008 and 2012, he said: “We stayed on track and implemented our strategy. Despite all the headwinds, we succeeded in achieving our targets and even exceeding them.”

1,000 ambassadors for a more sustainable world 

To heighten the awareness of employees for sustainability and strengthen their engagement in this area, the Laundry & Home Care business sector of Henkel has established a “Sustainability Ambassadors” program. In online seminars, the employees obtain an overview of the global challenges involved in sustainable development and learn more about Henkel’s own sustainability strategy. Since the program began in July 2012, around 500 employees have successfully completed this training. This figure should rise to 1,000 by the end of 2013.

Product idea 2050: “Syoss BREATHE” 

The international final of the “Henkel Innovation Challenge” in Shanghai saw 18 student teams from all over the world competing against one another. The students had three days in which to showcase their visionary ideas and themselves to a panel of Henkel managers. The jury ultimately selected the team from Germany as having submitted the best product vision for the year 2050. Susann Tiffany Leuchtmann, who is currently studying at the Copenhagen Business School, and Niels Henning Adler from the University of Mannheim are this year’s winners of the “Henkel Innovation Challenge”. In the final, the duo’s idea, “Syoss BREATHE” – a photosynthesis hair care product line – saw off the concepts entered by their international rivals to secure first place.

Henkel will introduce a new branding approach for its industrial adhesive technologies business. The company’s brand portfolio has grown strongly over the past decades and has enabled Henkel to become the global market leader in adhesives, sealants and surface treatments. To improve the navigation through the brand portfolio, Henkel will now re-group its industrial business for adhesive technologies under five technology cluster brands, each of which will represent a cluster of specific technologies and applications.
